To effectively do that for others, we first have to learn to do it for ourselves.

Here are some things your teen can try to help him keep the promises he makes to himself. Be a good role model and try them along with him:

  • Do what you’ve been putting off. Not everything, just one thing. Choose one of those things that’s been on your to-do list for at least a week, and do it today.
  • Take one step toward a healthier lifestyle. “Tomorrow I’ll get up at six a.m. and have a healthy breakfast. Then I’ll jog for an hour. No more fast food for lunch, and I’ll cook dinner from scratch.”

Well, that would be great. But not so realistic. How about just starting with the healthy breakfast and making it a habit?
